  • Every Day is Earth Day for Our Organic Gardening Programs

    Gardens, Food on 4/22/14

Happy Earth Day, our Organic Gardens program staff has been working hard to prepare the soil and plant seeds that will provide the opportunity for American Indian children and families to grow their own fresh vegetables! We know how important programs like Can Wigmunke (The Rainbow Tree) are in isolated reservation communities, where grocery stores can be expensive, and very far away – the transportation alone can cost $50!

    Gardens on 12/16/13

Can Wigmunke, The Rainbow Tree is a local gardening effort on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation that works with community members to prepare and plant community gardens to increase green spaces and improve the quality of life for everyone living on the reservation. The project uses their farmer’s markets and gardens as a small business model and inspiration for reservation youth looking to create their own jobs on the reservation.
