A quick update from Dreamstarter Annie Chasing Hawk
12/20/16 in Eagle Butte, SD under Dreamstarter
My dream is simple. I wanted to help Lakota youth pursue their dreams with their art goals. Recruiting began this past summer and it was fun going around to the communities on my reservations and going to summer camps to find these young artists. It warms my heart to see how many of them are interested in what I am offering and that are willing to participate in my project. I have found young drawers’, painters and photographers. Soon I hope to bring in a Lakota elder to tell them stories so the youth can illustrate for a book that will tell about the stories the elders have told them. I am so excited to see this goal completed. I am even more excited to share the finished results with the communities on my reservation. I know the young artists will be so excited to share the finished book that has their art work in it.

For 20 years, we at Running Strong for American Indian Youth® have held our Heat Match program providing residents of the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation and Cheyenne River Sioux Indian Reservation with matching grants of up to $100. Combined with $100 they put in, families can raise the $200 minimum necessary to have a propane truck come to their home and fill up their tank.
