Deadline Extended for Dreamstarter Teacher
11/22/17 in Nationwide under Dreamstarter Teacher
We have extended the deadline for our Dreamstarter Teacher grant applications to November 30, 2017!
Apply today to join the Spring 2018 cohort of teachers who are making impacts in their communities.
Running Strong will give away up to $50,000 in grants to teachers who serve American Indian students. We’ll select Dreamstarter Teachers who will use their grants to meet an unmet classroom or school need and encourage Native students to follow their dreams.
Grant funds may be used for almost anything you need for the classroom: resource materials, supplies, equipment, professional development, field trips/transportation, and/or stipends to support bringing community liaisons into the classroom.
Dreamstarter Teacher Highlight
RaeAnn Wanland, teacher at Summit Alternative High School in Flagstaff, AZ, took a group of 14 students on a service learning trip to Black Mesa. They learned backcountry camping skills and stayed with different families, spending time listening to Dine elders’ share about the history of Black Mesa, Navajo culture, and their stories of “resistance, struggle, and dignity.” Students also helped the elders in their fields and gardens. Many students “spoke about the honor they felt helping the elders.”
