Since the start of 2017 the center at Oyate Teca has several exciting updates!
In January, the center received a new furnace which has made the winter much easier. The Backpack Food Program was implemented. The center served 200 children in January alone!
The Backpack Food Program has made a huge impact. Rose Fraser, the director of Oyate Teca reported that when one little boy saw his bag of food he asked "Is this for me?"
When the volunteers replied yes that's all yours, he dropped the bag and gave Candy, a volunteer, a big hug and Rose hugged her saying "THANK YOU."
In March the center received a donation of prom dresses, making sure every girl could feel beautiful as they reach the end of their high school careers. As winter turned into spring the center received a Gardening Grant in April which allowed for two full time gardeners to be hired.
All of the positive updates at Oyate Teca have not gone unnoticed by community leaders. A local teacher told Rose
"You all are doing a really good thing for the kids, they all express a sense of gratitude for the food, some talk about how they prepare the meal or shared their snacks with neighboring kids"
