Field Staff Profile Dave Lone Elk
10/15/13 in Porcupine, South Dakota under Field Staff Profiles Basic Needs
Porcupine, South Dakota
Dave Lone Elk was born and raised on the Pine Ridge Reservation in the Porcupine District. He is currently pursuing a degree in Information Technology and Computer Programming at the Oglala Lakota College as well as working for Running Strong as our Pine Ridge Food Coordinator. Dave is no stranger to Running Strong. His father Ken Lone Elk has volunteered as our Water Well Coordinator since Running Strong first came to Pine Ridge in 1986.
“When I was in high school, I worked as my father’s right hand man when he was helping families obtain water. I was the guy deep in the trenches digging for the well driller, very good work for a high-school student on summer vacation!” Dave recalls.
Dave manages the food distribution program and coordinates the program with his father. Dave says that his favorite thing about directing the Running Strong food and goods distribution on Pine Ridge is getting to see the joy on a child’s face when they receive a new coat, a new toy, a new pair of shoes, or a turkey for the holidays.
