Slim Buttes Agricultural Program on Pine Ridge Indian Reservation has been helping kids and families have nutritious fruits and vegetables to eat for over 30 years! Slim Buttes helps Native people grow their own food in family gardens.
This spring, thanks to hundreds of Running Strong for American Indian Youth® supporters, more than $10,000 will be directed to the Slim Buttes Agricultural Project (SBAG) on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.
And in just a few weeks, SBAG will be distributing 12,000 seedlings to more than 200 family and community gardens on the reservation.

During the course of the summer, these gardens will be providing nutritious fresh fruits and vegetables, produce which is otherwise hard to come by and expensive when available, to thousands of children, parents and elders on Pine Ridge.
And come the end of the growing season in the fall, many of them will have canned the surplus allowing them to enjoy the fruits and vegetables well in to the long cold winter months.
