April is Minority Health Month!
The goal of Minority Health Month is to raise awareness of minority health disparities.
This year, Minority Health Month’s theme is “30 Years of Advancing Health Equity | The Heckler Report: A Force for Ending Health Disparities in America.”
The theme draws attention to the work that has been done to address minority health since the Heckler Report came out. This report inspired action to address the health issues racial and ethnic minorities face.
Running Strong for American Indian Youth was founded the year after the Heckler Report was released, and in the past 29 years we have worked to help American Indian youth & families be healthy in many different ways.
Basic Needs Seasonal Programs on 1/14/16
Running Strong for American Indian Youth runs an annual Heat Match program on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. Pine Ridge residents are eligible to receive a dollar-for-dollar match of up to $100 to go towards paying for their propane tanks to be filled, or applied towards their electric bill.
