Located in Warroad, MN, the Kah-Bay-Kah-Nong program was founded in 1995 to offer economically disadvantaged youth the opportunity to play hockey.
Founded by 1972 Olympic Silver Medalist Henry Boucha (Ojibwe), Kah-Bay-Kah-Nong, Inc. is now one of 30 National Hockey League Diversity youth hockey organizations.
The program also provides many services to community, including: • An Ojibwa Crisis Center that encourages families and individuals to engage in traditional talking circles, values, and wellness activities • A Food Bank that provides meals and herbal medicines to community members • Research and documentation, which is influential in bringing “Ojibwa Culture, Geography, History, and Language” curriculum to Warroad County Public Schools • Advocacy and mentor programs so children and their families are prepared to face challenges of unemployment, housing, and poverty • A Warroad Traditional powwow that shares the history and culture of Ojibwa people with the broader Warroad community.
Running Strong provides general support to Kah-Bay-Kah-Nong, Inc. for its youth programs.
