Project: Roanne will use her Dreamstarter Teacher grant to start a Apsaalooke Language & Culture Bowl. This will bring students from seven area high schools together, encouraging them to learn the language and fostering in them a sense of cultural pride.  Back to Top

Location: Tooele, UT

Project: Sarah plans to host Culture Nights for her students. She will bring in performers from different tribes to teach and educate students about different traditional dances, drums, and basic rhythms. Back to Top


Rolinda Want

School: Round Valley Elementary & High School
Location: Covelo, CA

Project: Rolinda plans to supplement her Indian Land Curriculum by bringing in four Native community members to speak to her students about traditional activities like acorn making, basket making, and traditional plant use. This will help her classes reconnect with their local cultural knowledge and develop pride in their culture. Back to Top


Celestine Stadnick

School: Lakota Waldorf School
Location: Kyle, SD

Project: Celestine will develop an art curriculum that will allow students to learn various methods of painting and drawing, work with high quality tools, and learn about traditional art forms of Indigenous people. She will use the Dreamstarter Teacher grant to purchase art supplies, and strives to see her students using art to heal and reclaim cultural identity. Back to Top

Project: Delilah hopes to teach her students about traditional methods of dehydrating foods. She will purchase a dehydrator and kitchen supplies for her demonstrations, and incorporate the use of tribal language throughout the process.  Back to Top

School: Ronan Middle School
Location: Ronan, MT

Project: Amy will incorporate culturally appropriate and relevant materials into her school’s library, a special collection of fiction and non-fiction texts that are by and about Indigenous people. She hopes to create a user-friendly space for students and faculty that will house authentic and accurate resources about Native history, people, and experiences. Back to Top

School: Shasta Union High School District
Location: Redding, CA

Project: April plans to use this grant to purchase gifts that will help Native high school and college graduates in her community succeed in academia – writing skills books, USB drives, and gift cards to purchase books, school supplies, and apps. These gifts will be presented at the Native Graduate Honoring Ceremony for Shasta County. Back to Top


Elizabeth Syria

School: Ibapah Elementary School
Location: Ibapah, UT

Project:Elizabeth will take her students on a field trip to Salt Lake City, to visit the planetarium or museum. This will expose the students to different fields of study – science, math, or history, and encourage them to pursue advanced education and careers that might not be available in their hometown. Back to Top
