We are excited to announce our Running Strong Native American Heritage 5K virtual race scheduled for November 27, the day after Thanksgiving – also known as National Native American Heritage Day. For over 25 years, Running Strong has helped create outlets for Native youth and elders to connect to their distinct and unique cultures, whether through Indigenous sports, teaching Native languages, supporting Native artisans, and so much more. We remain devoted to protecting and promoting Indigenous cultures, and now more than ever, we must ensure these cultures won’t be erased with time.
When you run in this race, you follow in the footsteps of generations of Native runners. For hundreds of years, in many Native American communities, running was – and still is – a way of sharing community – of sharing culture, tradition, and language.
Your run will be a way of saying “Wopila” – a thank you for all the indigenous peoples who have upheld these traditions and cultures throughout history. It will also support Running Strong for American Indian Youth to keep paving the way for Native youth and elders to connect to their distinct and unique cultures, whether through indigenous sports, teaching Native languages, supporting Native artisans, or providing education to preserve Native traditions.
