Brooke Gregory is a K-12 gifted and talented teacher at Chief Leschi School in Puyallup, Washington, who will be using her $5,000 grant to implement the Schoolwide Enrichment Model (SEM) to all students in K-8 “to provide exposure to enrichment experiences that are constructed around student interest, learning styles and preferred modes of expression.”
The SEM provides enriched learning experiences and higher learning standards for students through developing their talents and interests, providing a broad range of advanced-level enrichment experiences for all students and providing advanced follow-up opportunities for young people based on their strengths and interests.
“This grant project is needed at our school and in our community to ensure our students are gaining exposure to experiences they don’t have regular access to inside or outside of school. Students don’t know what they don’t know, and who knows, they may find a passion in robotics that wouldn’t have had the opportunity to experience before SEM.”
