News You Can Use are updates from across the country that inspire our work and motivate us to keep building a bright future for Native American youth and the communities they live in. This week, we are especially excited to share an update that is inspiring for our Native American communities as well as the rest of America.

Representative Deb Haaland of New Mexico has been nominated to be Secretary of the Interior by President-elect Joe Biden. If confirmed, she will be the first Native American to serve in that cabinet in its 171-year history. Haaland’s nomination has been backed by many Indigenous leaders, advocates, and allies since the 2020 presidential election.
