In 2016, 5,468 Native American children were prepared for their first day of school with backpacks filled with school supplies provided by Running Strong for American Indian Youth® and distributed by our program partners to those most in need in their communities.
At Running Strong we don’t want any of our partners be forced to turn away a child empty-handed. In 2017, we plan on providing even more backpacks to our partners so that every child who shows up at the door will receive the school supplies necessary for a successful start to a new school year!
Richard Grounds, director of the Yuchi Language Project in Sapulpa, Oklahoma, reported that through the donated school supplies, the children have not only received things they need “they have also gained a greater pride in their Yuchi language and identity. They feel good about who they are and are stronger together. Running Strong’s donations are a huge supplement to the welfare of these families,” he said. “It is truly a blessing to us to be able to distribute these items to children who really need them through your support.”
