Heat Match - Providing Emergency Utilities Assistance Through the Cold Winter on the Plains
12/10/14 under Basic Needs Emergency Assistance Seasonal Programs
Winter is a dangerous time for many families, especially the most vulnerable – elders and children.
The local propane companies in South Dakota require a minimum order of $200 to deliver propane to homes on the reservation. For many, $200 is not easy to come by.
Running Strong's Annual Emergency Heat Match Program gives funds for propane and electricity to families on the Pine Ridge and Cheyenne River Indian Reservations in South Dakota. We match families funds for heat dollar-for-dollar. Our heating assistance efforts began in 1997, and every year since, we have helped hundreds of Oglala and Cheyene River Lakota families heat their homes.
For each $100 a family can raise towards their propane bill, Running Strong will match them a $100 so that they have the $200 order they need. Can you help us match?
