Update: Tara Rouillard starts putting together Pine Ridge Girls School’s Indigenous science lab.
7/30/18 in Pine Ridge, SD under Dreamstarter
My project is to start the first ever indigenous science lab at Anpo Wicahpi Owayawa (Pine Ridge Girls School). The progress of the project is a lot of work and time but it’s coming together. The outcome of this project will hopefully have an in the future for native girls in STEM. This is what motivates me to continue. It’s an impact honor to get the opportunity to start a dream of ours at the school.
So far, we’ve installed three objects to our lab. We got a computer to research and help assist along the way. Prior to this computer, we used chromebooks that prevented us from successfully researching. We also ordered tables and chairs for the lab.
As the pictures show, the science room does not have any lab tables/supplies. The school is truly grateful, and I know the students will be excited when they return from the summer. The next blog, I am planning on demonstrating the lab in action and hopefully the remaining supplies will have arrived. Pilamiyaye (Thank you)!
