My art resembles where I can from and who I am as an Indigenous person. Art has helped me in many ways, especially these past couple of years. My mom has passed away and I have been creating a lot more to help me get through it. I will always tell people that art, in any form is healing and I aspire people to look into their creative sides.
Xantimniim Drake (Karuk), 19, comes from an artist family in Humboldt, CA. She has always been passionate about art and strives to make her craft into a career by working with local businesses to create logos to promote their missions, complete commissioned works, and selling her art and jewelry. After her mother passed away Drake found katharsis and healing in creating. For Drake, art is a way to express herself and give a voice to others, and her community.
Drake’s Dream is to create connections and promote healing in the community through art and inspire others to explore their creativity and journey with art, by leading by example. Funds will be used for the creation of a new website to promote business, facilitate art sales, procure stickers and print inventory, purchase art supplies, and allow for the opportunity for giveaways to engage the community.
