May Is National Physical Fitness And Sports Month

May Is National Physical Fitness And Sport Month. It is an exciting month for Running Strong!

This month, Billy Mills was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award by the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition (PCFSN). The President’s Council Lifetime Achievement Award is given to up to five people each year “whose careers have greatly contributed to the advancement or promotion of physical activity, fitness, sports, or nutrition nationwide.” Billy is one of the 2015 recipients of the award.

We also have a number of Dreamstarters working on projects related to fitness & sports!!

Physical Fitness

Ronnie Godfrey and Rashaun Nez will both work with their communities to improve fitness.

Ronnie will build a weight room at his high school for the whole community to use, and Rashaun will teach fitness classes to members of his community.

Sports

James PineDarius Sparks, and Noah Hotchkiss will all host sports camps for Native Youth.

James will host running camps in every district of Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.

Darius Sparks and Noah Hotchkiss will both host basketball camps. Darius’s camps will help disadvantaged youth learn life skills through basketball, and Noah’s camps will teach Native youth with disabilities about adaptive sports.

Support these dreams to encourage participation in physical fitness & sports!
