Running Strong Staff Visits Summer Youth Feeding Program & More in South Dakota

Recently, Running Strong staff members Audrey and Julia went to the Pine Ridge and Cheyenne River Indian Reservations to see the Summer Youth Feeding Program in action, and plan for the 25th Anniversary Running Strong Reservations Tour.

The Summer Youth Feeding Program runs from June through August, when kids are out of school for the summer. The program gives kids the opportunity to have free lunches when they don’t get free school meals, and to interact in a safe and fun environment on the Cheyenne River Reservation.

Kids in remote villages walk or ride bikes to sites within their communities each day to take part in the program.

While visiting the feeding sites, Audrey and Julia, along with field staffer Dave, pumped up and distributed basketballs to the kids. They loved them!

Dave, Audrey, and Julia also visited sites Running Strong will visit on the Reservations Tour to finalize details before the trip. This year the tour takes place September 7th – 13th. Check back then to virtually follow the tour in this special anniversary year!
